It's an oddly common experience. Someone recites beautifully, has done for years, maybe even completed Hifz, and still couldn't tell you what half the surahs they know by heart actually mean. That's not a failure of recitation, Tajweed and Hifz teach the sound, not the sense. It's simply a different skill, and it's the one our online Quran translation course was built to teach properly, one verse at a time rather than all at once.
For adults especially, this is often the course that changes how prayer feels, because standing in salah reciting words you understand is a genuinely different experience from reciting words you've only memorised the sound of.
What the Course Actually Covers
We build understanding in layers rather than handing over a full translation and hoping it sticks:
- Word-by-word meaning for commonly recurring Quranic vocabulary
- Verse-by-verse translation of the surahs and passages you already recite
- Grammar patterns that recur often enough to be worth learning properly, not memorising by rote
- Context around when and why a passage was revealed, kept brief and relevant
- Connecting meaning back to recitation, so familiar verses start to feel different once understood
Word-by-Word First, Then the Fuller Picture
Rather than starting with flowing English translation and hoping the Arabic follows, we teach word-by-word meaning first. A student learns what each recurring word means individually, then sees how those words combine into the verse's full sense. It's slower at the start and considerably faster by the second surah, because the vocabulary keeps repeating.
This course stops short of full Tafseer, the deeper scholarly explanation, historical context, and scholarly opinion covered in our separate Tafseer course. Translation focuses on what the words mean. Tafseer explores what they mean in fuller depth. Plenty of students take both, usually translation first.

How the One to One Classes Work
Classes are live and one to one over Zoom, Skype, or Google Meet, taught in English, Urdu, or Arabic. Your tutor will ask which surahs or passages matter most to you, ones recited daily in salah, favourite short surahs, or a specific juz, and build the course around those first rather than working strictly cover to cover.
Pricing runs from £30/month for two classes a week to £60/month for five, and female students are always matched with a female teacher, as with every course we teach.
